Required Permissions
To install and configure Dynamic Screen Rules, you need:
For installation:
Jira Administrator global permission (to install apps from the Marketplace)
For configuration:
Project Administrator role in the project where you want to create rules
The app requires the following OAuth scopes:
manage:jira-project- To access project settings and create rulesread:jira-workandwrite:jira-work- To read and modify issue fields
Note: Regular users don't need any special permissions to see rules in action. Rules execute automatically for all users who can view or create issues. Only administrators need permissions to create and manage rules.

Accessing the Configuration Panel
Dynamic Screen Rules is configured per project. Here's how to access the configuration panel.
Step 1: Navigate to Project Settings
Open the project where you want to create rules
Click Project Settings in the left sidebar (you must be a project administrator)
Step 2: Open Dynamic Screen Rules
In the Project Settings menu, scroll to the Apps section
Click Dynamic Screen Rules
The configuration panel will open, showing your list of rules (empty if this is your first time)
Can't see the Apps section? You may not have Project Administrator permissions. Contact your Jira administrator to request access.
What You'll See
The Dynamic Screen Rules configuration panel includes:
Rules list - All rules configured for this project, organized by screen (Create, View, Transition)
Add Rule button - Create a new rule
Rule toggles - Enable or disable rules without deleting them
Edit and Delete actions - Modify or remove existing rules
Understanding Project-Specific Configuration
Dynamic Screen Rules is configured per project, not globally across your Jira instance.
What this means:
Each project has its own set of rules
Rules configured in Project A don't affect Project B
You can experiment with rules in one project without risk to others
Different teams can have different field behavior tailored to their needs
Why it's designed this way:
Projects often have different workflows, issue types, and requirements
Project isolation prevents unintended side effects
Administrators can delegate rule management to project leads
Teams get exactly the field behavior they need
Best practice: Start by configuring rules in a test project or a single production project. Once you're comfortable with how rules work, roll them out to other projects as needed.
