# User Guide

{% hint style="info" %}
**Before you start:** the app's fields only appear on issues if they have been configured by an admin.

To see and use these fields, your Jira admin must:

* install **Time Tracking Customfield** from Atlassian Marketplace,
* create one or more custom fields of type **Time Tracking** or **Duration** (for example "QA Estimate", "SLA Limit"),
* add these fields to the relevant screens (Create, View/Edit, and optionally transition screens and portals) for your projects.

For admin-level details, see the [Getting Started](/time-tracking-custom-field/getting-started.md) and [Configuration](/time-tracking-custom-field/configuration.md) pages.
{% endhint %}

## Use Time Tracking fields

* What a Time Tracking field is and how it differs from a normal custom field.
* Where you can see it (Create Issue, View/Edit, transitions, portals).
* How to enter and update time using Jira-style duration strings (for example `30m`, `2h`, `1d 3h`).

## Use Duration fields

* What a Duration field is and how it differs from a Time Tracking field.
* Where you can see it (Create Issue, View/Edit, transitions, portals).
* How to enter duration values and how auto-normalization works.

## Timer

* Track time as it happens with a built-in **Start / Stop** timer on every Time Tracking field.
* Stop opens the standard Log work modal pre-filled with elapsed time.
* Timers persist across browser tabs, devices, and reloads.

## Timesheet — My week

* Review and log a whole week of time in one **issue × day grid** (Apps → Timesheet).
* Native Jira worklogs and Time Tracking field worklogs side by side, merged.
* Add, edit, and delete entries, and add any issue as a new row.

## Looking for admin topics?

If you need to configure **bucket sets** (syncing multiple Time Tracking fields to Jira's native Time Tracking) or set up the **workflow validator** (requiring time to be logged before a transition), see the [Configuration](/time-tracking-custom-field/configuration.md) section.
